Harry Partch

American composer (1901-1974)

Known for designing, building and employing instruments that fit his microtonal tuning system whereby he divided the octave in 43 unequal parts instead of the 12 equal ones that are standard in Western music. Thus allowing for music in just intonation based on the natural harmonic series.
