Musique concrète

Strictly speaking more the name of a technique where music is composed or decomposed by manipulating and cutting recorded sounds than a movement.

Pierre Schaeffer was the employee at Radio-France who took the ideas of rearranging recorded sounds to a new creative direction. At first he worked with gramophones but later when tape recorders became available to him he started using those.  The term Musique concrète came from the idea to use regular sounds to build new musical works..
